Parenting styles of caregivers based on Baumrind\u27s (1971) authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive styles were examined in relation to levels of secure attachment and social competence in preschoolers. Participants were primary caregivers of preschoolers enrolled in a public school system, daycare programs, and in a gymnastics program in a town in southern Georgia, as well as the preschoolers\u27 teachers. Participation was voluntary. Parenting styles were measured using Buri\u27s (1991) Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ).
