The preparation of an iso-octane solution of ten high-purity polychlorinated biphenyls and its certification as a calibrant for use in the analysis of very low levels of PCBs in environmental samples is described. The certification of the contents of the individual PCBs in the reference solution was established from measurements made in five independent laboratories employing high-resolution gas chromatography with flame-ionisation detection. The homogeneity and stability of the reference solution was confirmed in separate studies
