The structure of multicomponent glasses was investigated. The results show that it is possible to obtain infrared transparencies in vitreous chalcogenide systems with high thermal resistance and better optical transmittance in certain optical ranges. Heat treated Si-As-Ag-Te-Se glasses have much higher softening ranges than those observed in Ge-As-Se or Si-As-Te glasses. Silver critically affects the solubility of Se in Si chalcogenide glasses. Infrared spectra and internal friction maxima indicate the development of microstructure in the heat treated glass
