This article discusses the bitter dispute between the two groups that vied for control of the National Salon of Artists in 1969: the Museum of Modern Art and the Colombian Society of Fine Arts. This quarrel took the form of a rout of attacks and insults that radicalized the positions and caused a double departure: Marta Traba’s resignation from the tacit direction of the Museum of Modern Art, followed by her leaving the country, and the daring extraction of that museum’s collection from a university campus. To follow this conflict, it was necessary to revise the Central Historical Archive of the National University of Colombia, and to trace the articles from major newspapers of the time, in order to understand how altercations and scandals ...
