Restorative Practices and PBIS: A Design to Support ALL Students

Restorative Practices is a cultural framework that emphasizes community building, making personal connections, creating a culture of belonging, and breaking down barriers. The tenets of this framework are achieved through restorative conversations, teaching communication strategies, and setting an expectation and foundation for respectful interactions. Relationships are what drives positive school climate, and Restorative Practices support the effort to develop strong relationships with all stakeholders. Used with fidelity, Restorative Practices will also help reduce time away from instruction for students and teachers. This engaging session will help participants understand why Restorative Practices are important and immerse them in activities directly related to using strategies associated with Restorative Practices in their every day classroom environment. During our time together, we will dispel myths associated with Restorative Practices and help participants develop an understanding of how Restorative Practices will make the implementation of PBIS a much smoother and more authentic journey.
