This paper presents the results of a study to estimate the electromechanical oscillatory modes of the Nigerian power system using three different methods. The three methods considered are: the Prony method, the Eigensystem Realization Algorithm (ERA) and the Matrix Pencil. The Nigerian hydro-thermal power system is modeled in the PSCAD/EMTDC software. The time-varying dynamic response of the Nigerian power system to a disturbance shows several similar electromechanical oscillatory modes with the three different methods
