The area comprising the subject of this thesis lies in the southwestern part of Crawford county, 2 1/2 miles east of Wesco and 12 miles south of Steelville, the county seat. It embraces all of sections 17 and 20 and portions of sections 7, 8, 16, 18, 19, and 21, township 36 north, range 4 west. The area is of special economic interest in that the formations exposed are the same as those occurring in the southeastern Disseminated Lead district of St. Francois, Madison, and Washington counties. Until discovered in 1910 by assistants of the Geological Survey, these formations were not known to occur at the surface in this region, the western-most exposures heretofore mapped occurring in the southeastern part of Washington county, over 25 miles...
