Inclusions in an Al-killed steel were extensively observed through optical microscope and SEM. Partial acid extraction was used to reveal the 3-dimensional morphology of inclusions. Different precipitated phases inside inclusions were analyzed. During the partial acid extraction, only the Fe-matrix reacted with the acid, and A1203-based inclusions did not react with the acid. The main inclusions in the current Al-killed steel were mainly 5-200im A1203-based inclusions with different morphologies. The current work indicated that partial acid extraction is an efficient method to study the real 3-dimensional morphology and composition of inclusions in steel
