We investigate the effects of active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback on the colour evolution of galaxies found in local (z < 0.2) groups and clusters. Galaxies located within the lobes of powerful Fanaroff-Riley type II (FR II) (edge-brightened) sources show much redder colours than neighbouring galaxies that are not spatially coincident with the radio source. By contrast, no similar effect is seen near FR I (core-dominated) radio sources. We show that these colours are consistent with FR II sources truncating star formation as the expanding bow shock overruns a galaxy.
