Evaluación del efecto antimicrobiano de flavonoides obtenidos de extractos de hojas de Tamarindus indica Lin

In Cuba, the MINSAP promotes the use of medicinal plants and stimulates the research on the subject. These plants include: Tamarindus indica Lin from which there have been proved the effects of the fruit, attributing some other properties, like the antibacterial effect, what provoked as the main problem, the ignorance of the responsible metabolites that caused this activity . Therefore an experimental study was performed between January 2009 and May 2011 in the Faculty of Medical Siences in Bayamo in order to evaluate the antimicrobial effect of a pool from the flavonoid leaves. The extracts faced bacterial strains (S. aureus, E coli, P. aeruginosa) from collection cultures. The measurement of response variables were: Growth and Non growth. The gathering of information was carried out under blind observation. The investigative actions constituted standardized work procedures, equipment and glassware were suitable certificated and reagents had pure quality for the analysis. The leaves were collected between January and May (where is greater the concentration of flavonoids in the leaves). It was standardized and controlled the quality of dried drugs from which the pool of flavonoids was extracted and then chemical and spetroscopic tests were made for the identification. In the botanical identification of the plant there were observed characteristics that agreed with genus and species. The pool of flavonoids obtained, consisting of orientina, isoorientina, vitexin and isovitexina, had never been reported with these effects before, therefore it inhibited the growth of bacterial strains.En Cuba, el MINSAP promueve la utilización de plantas medicinales y estimula investigaciones al respecto. Dentro de estas plantas está: Tamarindus indica Lin del que se han probado efectos de sus frutos y se le atribuyen otras propiedades, dentro de ellas las antibacterianas lo cual generó como situación problemática el desconocimiento de los metabolitos responsables de dicha actividad. Por ello se desarrolló un estudio experimental, entre enero 2009 y mayo de 2011, en Ciencias Médicas Bayamo para evaluar el efecto antimicrobiano de un pool de flavonoides de sus hojas. Los extractos se enfrentaron a cepas bacterianas (S. aureus, E coli, P aeruginosa) de cultivos de colección. Las variables de medición de respuesta fueron: Crecimiento y No crecimiento. La obtención de información se realizó bajo la observación a ciegas. Las acciones investigativas constituyeron procedimientos normalizados de trabajo, los equipos y cristalería fueron certificados aptos y los reactivos con calidad pura para análisis. Las hojas se recolectaron entre enero y mayo (donde es mayor la concentración de flavonoides en sus hojas). Se estandarizó y controló la calidad de la droga seca de la que se extrajo el pool de flavonoides y se efectuaron ensayos químicos y espectroscópicos para su identificación. En la determinación botánica de la planta se observaron características concordantes con las del género y la especie. El pool de flavonoides obtenido, constituido por orientina, isoorientina, vitexina e isovitexina, nunca antes reportados con estos efectos, inhibió el crecimiento de las cepas bacterianas
