The influence of size and amount of coke breeze, the size and nature of the blended coals are discussed. It is shown that crushing of coke breeze to a fineness of 100 per cent through 1/16” to 1/20” is essential for obtaining good results. Both pilot scale and full oven tests show addition of 3-5% of coke dust has no adverse effect on the coke quality. Use of higher percentage of coal dust is however detrimental. It coke breeze is to be blended, crushing the coal to 100% below 1/8” is beneficial. It is emphasized that by this method a saving of 2.6 million tons of washed coal could easily by made
