The paper briefly discusses the findings of an investigation into presence of respiarable free silica dust in the work atmosphere of three silica brick manufacturing plants, and its impact on the health of factory workers. The study showed the presence of silica dust in work atmosphere in excess of threshold limit values, and occurance of silicosis or other lung abnormalities among plant workers. The paper points out to the necessity for controlling dust at work place by source control; and to simultaneous need to wear personal protective devices by the workers so that manace of silicosis could be contained among them
