E. coli endotoxin administered to rabbits at the beginning and end of a 24 hour period provoked the Shwartzman reaction in selected liver lobes. The reaction was compared with a single intravenous infusion of endotoxin. The effect of administering antithrombin-III and heparin on the univisceral Shwartzman reaction of the liver (hepatic Shwartzman reaction) was examined. The following results were obtained. (1) Four out of 5 lobes of the liver in one rabitt were provoked the Shwartzman reaction. Namely, the lobe-selective Shwartzman reaction of the liver was provoked.
