The Ribault Monument in Jacksonville, Fla., which commemorated the 1562 landing of Jean Ribault near the mouth of the St. John's River. The landing marked the beginnings of Protestant exploration in the New World. The photograph was taken at the unveiling ceremony of the Ribault Column at Mayport on 1 May 1924, pictured here: Col.
