Economics of climate change adaptation strategies among the small-scale farmers of the arid and semi-arid lands of Kenya

Households changed farming practices in terms of diversification, varying times of planting, changing the type and number of animals, and by developing water storage. The changes in household activities were significantly correlated with types of knowledge, contact with extension workers, income level and education level of the household head. Residents with both crops and animals were less vulnerable than those with crops or animals only. The adaptive capacity of the community would increase significantly through better infrastructure for water storage, plus access to input and output markets and information systems
