Assessment of post harvest losses of mango [final technical report : annexure 18]

Study conducted by the ITI in collaboration with the Institute of Post Harvest Technology, Sri LankaThe mango supply chain entails a complex postharvest marketing sequence with postharvest losses occurring at each of the many stages of the operation. Higher losses in supermarkets is due to poor stock management and the absence of usage of postharvest treatments for extending shelf life. Average losses are comparatively high at wholesale and retail levels. The lowest postharvest losses are observed at the collector level. At retailer stage, mechanical damages were considerably higher and clearly visualized. Disease due to stem end rot and anthracnose were observed mainly at the retail stage
