Paraty artisanal fishery (Southeastern Brazilian coast) : ethnoecology and management of a social-ecological system (SES)

This analysis evaluates trade-offs fishermen consider when navigating different activities from fishing to tourism, while accepting the importance of biodiversity conservation. Adding salary from the defeso to tourism earnings could encourage fishermen to restrict their fishing activities in the summer, allowing stock to recover. The defeso system compensates fishermen for not fishing certain species during their respective reproductive periods.
