Thesis, University of Western Ontario, 2010The thesis addresses the issue of migration of medical doctors from Zimbabwe in light of worsening economic and political developments, within which the country has lost more than half of its doctors. In terms of the dominant views in migration theory, the study demonstrates that counter to these views, the medical doctors’ intention to return to their country of origin is quite low, even if political and economic stability were to be achieved. Although a substantial proportion of the doctors send valuable remittances to Zimbabwe, the study raises questions regarding the potential of remittances to initiate development in Zimbabwe
