Drawing from the discourse on multi level governance (MLG), the report contextualizes issues in nanotechnology governance with reference to India. The study builds on research undertaken as part of the project over the past three years. An MLG framework would enable integration of divergent perspectives and help steer the course towards responsible development, application and regulation of nanotechnology in India. The department of science and technology (DST), through its Nano Mission has been the most instrumental agency encouraging nanotechnology through both financial and institutional support. Surveys about nanotechnology governance indicate that “strategic risk governance” is underdeveloped in all countries
