The role of squash in the milpa system has increased it is importance during past years; however, morphological and genetic variability in current landraces have not been sufficiently studied, at both regional and local levels. To increase the knowledge about the Cucurbita genus in México, a research was carried out to assess the amount of both morphological and genetic diversity, among and between species, in 36 squash landraces, 26 from C. moschata and 10 from C. argyrosperma.
