Diversidad morfológica e isoenzimática en poblaciones nativas de calabaza (cucurbita spp) en Yucátan, México

The role of squash in the milpa system has increased it is importance during past years; however, morphological and genetic variability in current landraces have not been sufficiently studied, at both regional and local levels. To increase the knowledge about the Cucurbita genus in México, a research was carried out to assess the amount of both morphological and genetic diversity, among and between species, in 36 squash landraces, 26 from C. moschata and 10 from C. argyrosperma. Landraces were planted in the traditional crop production system named Milpa, at the central-western region of the state of Yucatan, under the assumption that current squash landraces have a wide variation maintained by local farmers along the years ...La importancia de la calabaza, como parte del sistema milpa, se ha incrementado en los últimos años en Yucatán, sin que la variabilidad morfológica y genética, regional y local, haya sido suficientemente estudiada. Con el objeto de ampliar el conocimiento sobre la diversidad del género Cucurbita en México, se realizó la presente investigación, cuyo objetivo fue evaluar el grado de diversidad morfológica y genética, inter e intraespecífica, de 36 poblaciones nativas de calabaza, pertenecientes a las especies C. moschata (26) y C. argyrosperma (10), cultivadas en la región centro-oriente del estado de Yucatán en el sistema milpa, bajo el supuesto de que existe una amplia variación en las poblaciones actuales de calabaza que ha sido mantenida por los agricultores de la región ..
