This paper deals with the effect of nitrogen and phosphorus on growth and yield of the wheat variety IAS 54. The variables measured were: number of tillers, number of fertile heads, number of kernels per head, weight of 100 seeds and the weight of the straw. The work was carried out under greenhouse condition at Estação Experimental de Ponta Grossa (IPEAME), Brazil, in 1969. The results showed a highly significant effect of nitrogen on the number of tillers and on the number of fertile heads, but not on the weight of 100 seeds. The influence of phosphorus upon that characteristics was observed only in the presence of nitrogen. The number of kernels per head was not influenced by phosphorus application. Correlation between the grain yield, i...
