Sarcoptic mange in pigs: l. Control strategy

Numa granja produtora de reprodutores localizada no município de Concórdia, SC, planejada com base no princípio negro-branco, foi evitada a introdução do ácaro da sarna sarcóptica através do exame e tratamento dos animais em quarentena. O êxito do programa em manter o plantel livre da praga foi comprovado pela não apresentação clínica no decorrer dos anos, assim como, em função da negatividade dos exames dos raspados cutâneos efetuados em coletas anuais de um total de 1.548 animais de diferentes categorias, onde cada amostra era constituída pelo material colhido de ambos os condutos auditivos e externos e de mais duas ou três diferentes regiões da superfície corporal.In a boar producing system situated at Concórdia, SC, Brazil, projected on the basis of the white-black principle, the introduction of the sarcoptic mange mite was prevented by examination and treatment of the animals in quarentine. The success of the program for maintaining the herd free from disease was proved by no clinic manifestation along the years, as well as, by means of the negative results obtained by cutaneous scraping examinations. These examinations were performed through sample collections from a total of 1,548 pigs from different categories, where each sample was constituted by the material collected from, both extern auditive conducts and from two or three different regions of the body surface
