Experimental results obtained in control of the florida red scale ( Chrysomphalus fícus ) and a purple scale, ( Mytilococcus backii) on orange trees

Foram estudadas as ações dos inseticidas fosforados, misturados com óleo mineral ou não, no controle das duas cochonilhas de escama, Chrysomphalus ficus (Ash., 1880) e Mytilococcus beckii ( New 1869), mais prejudiciais às plantas cítricas nas zonas produtoras da Bahia e Sergipe. Foram testados seis inseticidas fosforados em mistura com Triona (óleo emulsionável). Quando aplicados isoladamente, os fosforados apresentaram baixa eficiência, ao passo que, misturados com o óleo mineral (1%), o rendimento foi muito mais elevado, evidenciando-se se os tratamentos com o Diazinon (96,9% eficácia), Gusation e Malation (90,3%) seguidos pelo Rhodiatox (87,9%), EPN (86,7%) e Folidol (84,7%).This paper deals with two experiments carried out at Cruz das Almas, Bahia, by the Entomology Section of IPEAL. The objective of these experiments were to control the Florida Red Scale, Chrysomphalus aonidum (L.) and a purple scale, Mytilococcus beckii (Newn.). Six organic phosphorous insecticides were used to spray orange trees. They were: EPN, malathion, methyl parathion, ethyl parathion, azinphosmethyl and Diazinon. Each was tested with and without the addition of an oil emulsifier. The results revealed that the addition of the oil emulsifier improved the efficiency of the insecticidal control. The efficiency of the compounds tested is as follows: 0.1% Malathion = 96.3%; 0.08% Diazinon = 96.9%; 0.1% azinphosmethyl = 96.3%; 0.25% ethyl parathion = 87.9%; 0.04% EPN = 86.7%; and 0.1% methyl parathion = - 84.7%. No phytotoxic action of the insecticides was observed on the plants
