Recent experiments have shown that different regions of myelin basic protein (MBP) are encephalitogenic for different inbred strains of mice. It was therefore of interest to determine whether the immune response to MBP was MHC associated, and if so, what subregion controlled this response. Because PL/J and A/J mice were good responders to mouse MBP and C57Bl/10SN were not, B10.PL(73NS) and B10.A mice were immunized with mouse MBP under conditions designed to induce EAE.
