Women's knowledge and perception about AIDS were reviewed from IDHS 1994 and 1997, to evaluate the effectiveness of health education for reproductive age women. In 1997, among ever married women age 15-49 years, 51 percent have heard of AIDS. The percentage has rapidly increased since 1994. The major sources of information are televisions (47%) and radios (18%), with an increasing coverage especially in the rural areas. But the access to news papers is still remain the same, and is covering more women in the urban areas than in the rurals. Among women who ever have heard of AIDS, 19% believe there is no way to avoid getting the disease; and 56% believe that the disease is not curable.
