Policy influence

Meeting: Making the most of research : research and the policy process, 21 June 2004, Ottawa, ON, CAThe presentation analyzes how research can influence policy in terms of windows of opportunity; even when there is an “open window” the timing and conditions are often narrow. However, the ability to recognize opportunity is important. In terms of how policy-influencing research can be funded, some initial strategies are outlined: map policy networks at the outset; design influence strategies at the outset; make explicit the commitment of resources needed to develop policy influencing capacity; make explicit the strategies of evaluation for policy-influencing outcomes
