WORK - FAMILY CONFLICT AMONG BRANCH MANAGERS IN PRIVATE SECTOR COMMERCIAL BANKS OF WESTERN PROVINCE - SRI LANKA

The work family conflict is one of the issues in modern society. There are many arguments related to work family conflict in the world. Work - family conflict can be explained as “a form of inter role conflict in which the role pressures from the work and family domains are mutually incompatible in some respect”. The objectives of this study are: to identify the important variables of work-family conflict among branch managers, contribution level of the variables, relationship between the variables in work family conflict among branch managers, to identify equal groups of the work- family conflict among the branch managers and to recognize the gap of work- family conflict after becoming a branch manager in a private sector commercial bank in Western Province of Sri Lanka. A sample of 67 managers out of 335 branches in western province was randomly chosen for this study.The primary data collection was done through questionnaire and the responses to the questions were elicited on a 5 – point Likert Scale. The statistical tools were adapted to analysis of the study such as factor analysis,correlation analysis, gap analysis (t-test), and regression analysis. All the tests were carried out at 5% level of significance and all the analyses were carried out using SPSS - 17.0 version. The results of the study indicated that female managers report work to family conflict at levels higher than male managers. And it is perception of the some factors in the work- family such as family demand and family involvement.
