The article points out the role and importance of standardization in the EU economic policy and development strategy and discusses European standardization activities in the field of transport and its basic institutional structure and organization of the work of the technical bodies of the European Standards Organizations (ESOs). The relation between the standardization and legislation and selected European standardization initiatives concerning transport are shown. The article also deals with the principles of cooperation of the EU Member States and ESO technical bodies as well as the main problems of the system of national standardizatio
