The principles involved in the washing of china days and the various' stages of operation are discussed. The improvements that can be effected by electrolytes, in the quality and the quantity of the recovered fraction are shown. The necessity of including a ‘demagnetising’ step is stressed. A decolourising process, developed at the Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute, considerably improves the brightness of the clay, in some instances upto 15–20 units. This process can be incorporated in the regular operations of a washing, plant. © 1964 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC
