We report the development of ultra-stable aqueous colloidal dispersion of magnetite nanocrystals produced by aqueous `coprecipitation method'. Magnetic nanofluids were prepared by dispersing the Fe3O4 NPs in water medium in the presence of tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH). The synthesized nanocrystals were characterized by XRD, TG-DTA, XPS and TEM for evaluating the phase, crystal structure and morphology. FTIR spectroscopy was used to shed light onto the nature of the interactions between TMAH and Fe3O4 NPs.
