The microorganisms present in water cause harmful effects in human body. The presence of bacteria and pathogenic (disease-causing) organisms can prove fatal and hence is a matter of great concern when considering the safety of drinking water. The pathogenic organisms can cause intestinal infections, dysentery, hepatitis, typhoid fever, cholera, and other illnesses. The paper discusses results of physicochemical and bacteriological analysis done on various water samples taken from different sources in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The water samples collected from different regions of Ahmedabad were found to have significant impurities, considerable deterioration and remarkable variation.
