It has been proved among professionals in this field that a tendency exists focusing more on the nonverbal signs than on the verbal ones. In 1981, Zuckerman, De Paulo and Rosenthal showed that lying requires the use of more cognitive resources than to tell the truth. This discovery is considered to be the start of cognitive approach which centres on adding cognitive load during the interrogation of participants resulting in a more verbal and nonverbal signs associated with deceit.
