Because of the importance of anions in biological and chemical processes, studies based on anion recognition are increasingly popular. The common property of the compounds synthesized and used as anion receptors is their ability to form complexes by hydrogen bonding with the anions in solution. The presence of anions in the solution can be determined by examining the changes on the sensor molecules by spectroscopic techniques.
