In her oral history, Sister Lorraine Geis reflects on her time as a Sister of Saint Francis both in the United States and Papua New Guinea. Sister Geis grew up in a farming family, which would set the foundation for her love of teaching agriculture to high school students later in life. As a novice, she taught second graders in Bridgetown, Cincinnati. She was invested in 1952 and her final profession was in 1956, after which she went to Riverview Gardens in Saint Louis and taught for seven years. It was in 1961, however, when her life would change dramatically.
