Money is a payment transaction instrument that cannot be separated from economic life. The stability and economic growth of a country depends on the circulation of money to the public and monetary authorities. The definition of money is divided into 2 (two) terms, namely according to law and according to function. The regulation of counterfeiting and circulation of counterfeit money is regulated in Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning currency, as referred to in Article 26 (1). The criminal act of using counterfeit money is Article 244 of the Criminal Code which reads: "Whoever imitates or falsifies a currency or banknote or a bank with the intention to circulate or order to circulate the currency or paper currency as if it were genuine and not imposed, it is subject to a maximum of fifteen years imprisonment". According to fiqh, the penalty for forgery of money is subject to the penalty of tak'zir.
