This journal article is based on an exploratory study jointly conducted with a Professor in European Health and Trauma Studies at the University of Surrey. Its major contribution to the field lies in highlighting a major under-researched area of public policy, namely children looked after by local authorities and then at 18 years of age, becoming adults whose entitlement to remain in the UK is assessed. At the heart of this article are concerns about the welfare status of the children of unaccompanied asylum seekers who make this transition. The policy and practice implications are made clear
