This book chapter offers an overview of the concept of transversality in and beyond the work of Felix Guattari. Traces of this overview are organised through a genealogy of the concept that starts with Guattari's early psychoanalytic experimentation with the idea of trasnversality. The other genealogical coordinates are then found in a brief and widely unknown work by Michel Foucault and, for a more robust cartography, the chapter looks at Deleuze's lectures from 1986 where the concept of transversality is followed in the social and political milieu that unfolds from the 1950s and through 1968
