The saliency of race within society is a topic that has been debated across the academy and wider society for many years. However, the narrative of dominance and superiority within the construction of whiteness as a cultural marker has largely been negated through the conversation of progress and post racialism. This article outlines some of the key challenges for researchers in positioning the issue of race within society. It does not separate the academy from the construction of knowledge from a value base that is steeped in colonialist thought and argues that race remains a significant factor in the construction of privilege.
