This report investigates the competitiveness of the agricultural and agri-food sectors based on a literature review. Definition and measurement methods are explained, and results from a few studies are given. The objective is not to provide an exhaustive review of all possible methods and existing empirical studies, but to present a broad overview of the possible measures used to evaluate competitiveness, and to illustrate them with a few examples. This overview nevertheless allows a variety of conclusions to be drawn, regarding the limitations of measurements, and suggestions to be made about where future research should be concentrated
