International audienceThe traditional supernatural world of the Ladakhi people comprises three main groups of beings (lha, tsan, lhu) inhabiting three different levels. The gods (lha) live in the sky (stanlha); beneath the Buddhist pantheon are the minor deities considered here, comprising six groups each with its distinct social role, five of them being honoured by special altars (lhatho). The red demons, like many other ogres, fairies, etc., live in the human world, and are ceaselessly on the prowl.
