International audienceOuargla, formerly known as "Capital of the Oases" since ancient times, is an important crossroads and center of an ancient commercial activity for caravans and nomads. The oasis agricultural system, based on date palm cultivation, was untilearly 1950s, the main economic activity of a population in constant transformation. Exploitation of oil slicks in the Hassi Messaoud area around the fifties and the development of new agricultural lands through the APFA1 at the beginning of the1980s profoundly changed the local economy and the socio-demographic structure.Ouargla, appelée autrefois « est considérée, depuis l’Antiquité, comme Capitale des oasis », un carrefour important et un centre d’une activité commerciale ancienne pour les caravanes et les nomades. Le système agricole oasien, basé sur la culture du palmier dattier, était, jusqu’audébut des années 1950, la principale activité économique d’une population en constante transformation.
