Creation and Humanity : The Asian Mind as the Motive Force to Create Culture

The aim of this paper is to investigate what the motive force to create culture is. Yosbie Hotta, a novelist published an essay titled "What I Thought of in India." Hotta refuses to accept Soseki Soseki's idea that our views are apt to be superfilcial because our modern ways of lives have Western origins, but we cannot help doing so. Hotta says that Soseki cannot help doing so because his view is based on Western ways of thought, not Asian ways of thought. Hotta tries to find his own way of thought because he is not Western but Asian and finds that he has the Asian mind which includes everything and transforms negative ways of thought into positive ones. We can find the same ways of thought in Ryotaro Shiba, especially in his selflessness which made him find excellent characters in Japanese culture and in Hayao Miyazaki who started his career as an admirer of Western culture and could only find negative elements in Japanese culture, but finally could find creative elements in Asian culture and created his own world by combining Western elements and Asian elements in him
