This presentation will first focus on a thorough evaluation of the DNA damage response to both low and high-LET in a cohort of 76 mice primary skin fibroblast derived from 15 different strains or in human blood mononuclear cells derived from 550 healthy donors. In both the human and mice work, we have hypothesized that DNA repair capacity can be used as a marker to evaluate and differentiate individual radiation sensitivity. More specifically, this work is based on the concept that the combined time-dose dependence of radiation-induced foci (RIF) of p53-binding protein 1 (53BP1) following low-LET exposure contains sufficient information to infer sensitivity to any other LET.
