PURPOSE: One of the major challenges in stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) of renal cell carcinoma is internal motion during treatment. Previous literature has aimed to mitigate the effects of motion by expanding the treatment margins or respiratory tracking. Online magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided radiation therapy has the potential to further improve the treatment of renal cell carcinoma by direct visualization of the tumor during treatment.
