Respon Jepang Terhadap Tuntutan Pertanggungjawaban Jugun Ianfu Oleh Korea Selatan

Jugun Ianfu is a term for comfort women during the Japanese occupation when World War II took place. Women who were victims of Jugun Ianfu came from various countries such as South Korea, North Korea, China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Timor Leste, Malaysia and Indonesia. The existence of Jugun Ianfu was motivated by the Rape of Nanking incident which resulted in increased anti-Japanese sentiment among the people in the Japanese colony. One of the solution made by the Japanese military at that time was to recruit young women to become Jugun Ianfu which would then be placed in Ianjo (Comfort Station). But in reality these women are more appropriately referred to as sex slaves. There are so many acts of violence committed by Japan from them starting from recruitment and as long as these women live as Jugun Ianfu. One of the countries that is still actively demanding the rights of former Jugun Ianfu is South Korea. Victims who received support from the community and NGOs actively held demonstrations every Wednesday in front of the Japanese Embassy in South Korea. This issue later became a very sensitive issue for both parties and often disrupted relations between South Korea and Japan in collaborating. Reconciliation was finally made by agreeing to the Comfort Women Deal 2015 to resolve this issue
