The central question of this study considers what it means to be an Iranian living outside Iran’s borders. The key themes of identity, homeland and belonging are explored in an interpretive framework based on in-depth qualitative interviews with individuals and focus groups, participant observation, content analysis, and taking interdisciplinary approach. The participants in the study were born and lived in Iran for more than four decades. They chose to migrate to Australia due to the changes brought about by 1979 revolution. The participants are professionals who belong to the Iranian Middle class. The overriding framework for the thesis is the notion of border crossing as a site of possibilities.
