Study of nonlinear and guantum prosesses in the interaction of potassium atoms with coherent laser light

The interaction between coherent light and potassium atoms can produce many nonlinear phenomena as four and six wave mixing, stimulated hyper-Raman scattering, Autler-Townes splitting and electromagnetically induced transparency. These processes are studied in experiment with fs laser light of high intensity, with two-photon excitation of the 6S state of potassium atom, and theoretically solving numerically the density matrix equations in a simlified four level potassium atom model. In a pump-probe configuration the use of a second weak laser field can modiify the polarisation of the system and can enhance the four wave mixing emissions of the desired de-excitation path. The role of the weak probe field in a V or Λ scheme is studied. The temporal delay between the pump and the probe field can be used to measure experimentically the Coherence Relaxation Time of states.Η παρούσα εργασία εξετάζει την αλλληλεπίδραση ατόμων καλίου με ισχυρό φως laser στενών fs παλμών. Μία σειρά από μη-γραμμικές διαδικασίες εμφανίζονται πειραματικά και μελετώνται, όπως μίξη τεσσάρων και έξι κυμάτων, διαχωρισμός Autler-Townes λόγω των εσωτερικά παραγόμενων πεδίων, σκέδαση hyper-Raman, ηλεκτρομαγνητικά επαγόμενη διαφάνεια και φαινόμενα κβαντικής συμβολής. Με την αριθμητική επίλυση των εξισώσεων για τα στοιχεία του πίνακα πυκνότητας σε ένα απλοποιημένο μοντέλο του ατόμου του καλίου, τεσσάρων επιπέδων, μελετώνται οι διαδρομές αποδιέγερσης, μετά από διφωτονική διέγερση στην κατάσταση 6S. Εξετάζεται ο ρόλος ενός ακόμα πεδίου laser ως διαταραχής, που συνδέει τις ενδιάμεσες καταστάσεις σε V ή Λ διαμόρφωση. Αυτό το δεύτερο πεδίο σύζευξης τροποποιεί την συμπεριφορά του συστήματος, ενισχύει σε ένταση αλλά και σε συμφωνία τις παραγόμενες ακτινοβολίες της διαδρομής στην οποία δρα, και από την χρονική του καθυστέριση σε σχέση με τον κύριο παλμό μπορούμε να μετρήσουμε τους χρόνους μείωσης συμφωνίας ενεργειακών καταστάσεων πειραματικά και θεωρητικά
