Time trend of syphilis in pregnant women incidence and congenital syphilis in Santa Catarina state from 2008 to 2018 period

Syphilis, an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Treponema Pallidum, affects people exposed to this bacterium and has a major impairment when it affects pregnant women and children born to mothers with the disease. Objective: to analyze the temporal trend of morbidity and mortality by congenital syphilis and gestational syphilis in the state of Santa Catarina from 2008 to 2018. Method: An ecological study was carried out based on the reports of gestational syphilis and congenital syphilis in the year 2008 to 2018, in Santa Catarina state; the data were obtained from databases of the Information System of Notifiable Diseases and demographic data through DATASUS. Results: The highest rate of gestational syphilis was found in the macro-region of the Greater West, which generated 118.21/100 thousand inhabitants in 2018. The highest rate of congenital syphilis was 139.06/100 thousand inhabitants in the macro-region of Greater Florianopolis in the same year, showing a worrying scenario for the public health of the state, generating a fatality rate of 1.08/100 thousand inhabitants in pregnant women and a null rate for congenital syphilis. It is concluded that the incidence rate of syphilis is increasing every year thus compromising many children.A sífilis é uma doença infectocontagiosa causada pela bactéria Treponema Pallidum, acomete pessoas expostas a esta bactéria tendo um maior comprometimento quando atinge gestantes e crianças nascidas de mães portadoras da doença. Objetivo: analisar a tendência temporal da morbidade e mortalidade por sífilis gestacional e sífilis congênita no estado de Santa Catarina no período de 2008 a 2018. Método: Realizou-se estudo ecológico, a partir das notificações de sífilis gestacional e sífilis congênita no ano de 2008 a 2018, no estado de Santa Catarina, os dados foram obtidos a partir dos bancos de dados do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação e dados demográficos por intermédio do DATASUS. Resultados: A maior taxa de sífilis gestacional foi na macrorregião do Grande Oeste o que gerou taxa de 118,21/100 mil habitantes no ano de 2018. A maior taxa de sífilis congênita foi de 139,06/100 mil habitantes na macrorregião da Grande Florianópolis no mesmo ano, mostrando um cenário preocupante para a saúde pública do estado, gerando uma taxa de letalidade 1,08/100 mil habitantes em gestantes e uma taxa nula para sífilis congênita. Conclui-se que a taxa de incidência da sífilis está aumentando a cada ano comprometendo assim muitas crianças
