Knowledge of the boxing athletes of Florianopois academies about the mouthguards

Objective: To investigate the knowledge of boxing fighters associated with the academies of Greater Florianópolis on the importance of using mouth guards during sports practice. Methodology: In-person and individual questionnaires were applied to each athlete, whether they were professionals or amateurs, with questions that analyzed their knowledge of boxing about mouthguards as a way to prevent these traumas. Data were tabulated and submitted to descriptive statistical analysis. Results: The results showed that 93.3% of the athletes had knowledge about the buccal protector and that the majority with 74% of them obtained this knowledge in boxing academies where they attended and only 17.3% obtained this knowledge of the dental surgeon. It was also observed that 86.7% of the athletes use the mouthguard but 23.2% use the mouthguard manufactured by a dental surgeon. Conclusion: Boxing is a sport in which the use of the buccal protector is mandatory, so professional and amateur athletes have knowledge about the buccal protector and make use of it.Objetivo: Investigar o conhecimento dos lutadores de boxe vinculados às academias da Grande Florianópolis sobre a importância do uso dos protetores bucais durante a prática do esporte. Metodologia: Foram aplicados questionários presencialmente e individuais para cada atleta, fossem eles profissionais ou amadores, com questões que analisaram seu conhecimento de boxe acerca dos protetores bucais como forma de prevenir estes traumas. Os dados obtidos foram tabulados e submetidos à análise estatística descritiva. Resultado: Os resultados demonstraram que 93,3% dos atletas tem conhecimento sobre o protetor bucal e que a maioria com 74% destes obtiveram esse conhecimento em academias de boxe aonde frequentavam e apenas 17,3% obtiveram esse conhecimento do cirurgião dentista. Foi visto também que 86,7% dos atletas usam o protetor bucal porém 23,2% usam o protetor bucal fabricado por cirurgião dentista. Conclusão: O boxe é um esporte em que o uso do protetor bucal é de caráter obrigatório, por isso, os atletas profissionais e amadores possuem conhecimento sobre o protetor bucal e fazem o uso do mesmo
