Water treatment plants carry out the transformation of raw water into drinking water, following the standards established by the Ministry of Health. This treatment process generates a residue that’s called WTP sludge, composed by the solids extracted from the raw water, and the coagulating agents employed in the process. This residue is usually released into water courses without any treatment and may cause damage to the environment. Therefore, it is important to carry out a study, to define an appropriate treatment system and a correct destination of this residue.
